Some of the best treasures we have in Santa Margalida are our beaches and our turquoise and crystal clear water. Can Picafort is located in the middle of the Bay of Alcudia and has more than nine kilometers of coastline. During the course of this one, we can find urban beaches of fine sand with infinity of services or virgin and solitary beaches. The municipality of Santa Margalida has a total of seven beaches: an urban beach, the Beach of Can Picafort; two semi-urban, the Beach of Son Bauló and the Beach of Son Serra de Marina; and four natural beaches, the Beach of Son Real, the Beach es Serralot, the Beach of s’Arenal den Casat and the Beach na Patana.
It should be noted that three of these beaches (Can Picafort Beach, Son Bauló Beach and Son Serra de Marina Beach) have the distinction of “Blue Flag”, thanks to the quality of services and environmental conditions. In this way, the “Blue Flag” promotes and recognizes public and citizen efforts to meet the criteria required for legality, accessibility, health, environmental education, cleanliness and safety.
On the other hand, the other natural beaches (Son Real Beach, Serralot Beach, S’Arenal den Casat Beach and Na Patana Beach) are located in a virgin area rich in archaeological sites. To access these it is necessary to arrive on foot by means of a way that passes by the Public Finca of Son Real and that joins the town of Can Picafort with Son Serra de Marina through the “Camino de sa Marina de Son Real”. This itinerary has also been awarded the distinction of “Blue Path”, as it links two beaches with Blue Flag and contributes positively to the sustainable use of the coastline. It is also a recognition of the natural, ethnological and archaeological heritage of the area along the route. It should be noted that there are only three “Blue Paths” in the whole island of Mallorca. For this reason, the “Camino de sa Marina de Son Real” is a unique and wonderful itinerary to be able to reach its virgin and idyllic beaches, enjoy nature and heritage, and thus be able to spend an unforgettable holiday.
Finally, our waters are characterized by being crystalline and having a characteristic turquoise blue. The results of the analyses carried out by official laboratories endorse us: the quality of our waters is excellent year after year.
