Els argonàutes

*The Argonauts* is a sculpture by Joan Bennàssar created in 2016 as part of the *Ports of Seaweed* project—the first phase of a sculptural ensemble completed in 2022 with *The New Ithaca of the Mediterranean*.

The work forms part of the sculptural ensemble El Vincle, together with other pieces such as El Vigia, Nausicaa / Telèmac, Penèlope and Ulisses / Odisseu.

Els Argonautes refers to the myth of the sailors who accompanied Jasó in the search for the Golden Fleece. It represents the shared journey, adventure, the strength of the group and the desire to go beyond known boundaries.

Within Bennàssar’s Mediterranean universe, this piece connects with the sea as a space of passage, discovery and transformation. It is a sculpture that speaks of the collective journey, the bonds that emerge along the way and the constant search for a new horizon.
