Experiencing the Beata of Santa Margalida means discovering one of Mallorca’s most unique and beloved celebrations. Every first Sunday in September, the Vila comes alive with music, tradition, emotion and popular participation to pay tribute to Santa Catalina Thomàs, popularly known as the Beata.
The procession combines floats, pagesos and pageses dressed in traditional clothing, marching bands, dimonis and scenes depicting episodes from the saint’s life. One of the most eagerly awaited moments comes when the dimonis try to take the jugs from the pagesos and smash them at the feet of the Beata, in a scene full of intensity, symbolism and local identity.
It is an essential experience for anyone wishing to discover Mallorcan popular culture from within. More than just a celebration, the Beata is a living expression of the memory, devotion and participatory spirit of Santa Margalida.
