An intense work that unites the classical myth of the Minotaur with the symbolic power of the devil in Mallorcan folklore. It represents instinct, mystery, and duality.
It is a sculpture by Joan Bennàssar created in 2022 as part of the La nova Ítaca de la Mediterrània project.
The work brings together the classical myth of the Minotaur and the symbolic power of the dimoni within Mallorcan popular culture. This combination creates an intense piece filled with mystery, instinct and duality, where the ancient Mediterranean world enters into dialogue with Mallorca’s traditional culture.
Within Bennàssar’s sculptural ensemble, this work offers a powerful perspective deeply rooted in the territory. It invites us to interpret the dimoni not only as a festive or popular figure, but also as a symbol of strength, transformation and connection with the deepest traditions of Santa Margalida.”
