Escars de Can Picafort

The boat slips at Can Picafort bear witness to the settlement's maritime past and the municipality's historical relationship with fishing.

For centuries, fishing activity led to the construction of small shelters used to store boats, fishing gear and other equipment associated with work at sea. In some cases, these spaces also served as shelters or temporary accommodation for fishermen.

The escars that still survive today stand out for the simplicity of their construction, both in terms of structure and the techniques and materials used.

This ensemble forms part of Can Picafort’s maritime heritage and helps us understand the origins of a settlement that developed in close connection with fishing, fishermen’s huts and everyday life by the sea.
