Son Real is situated at 12 kilometres from Can Picafort. The name comes from the torrent that flows into the sea in this beach. In 1991 it was declared Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès for the diversity of flora and fauna by the Parlament de les Illes Balears.
This protected coastal strip, which is two kilometres large and five kilometres long, is formed by dunes which are fixed by a thick vegetation. There are two wetlands in the mouth of the torrents of Son Real and Son Bauló, where migratory birds, insects and amphibious live.
Rich in archaeological remains, stands a unique monument: the Necropolis of Son Real, set of tombs belonging to the antique age and used from 500 BC to AD 10
This stretch of coastline of 6 km during the 2015 season received the distinction of “Blue Trail” award that distinguishes an area for nature conservation and historical heritage preserved. It is the only Blue Trail in Baleares obtained.
