Our beaches, synonymous with quality

The Blue Flag is an international distinction awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education. This distinction is a symbol of environmental quality, services and safety. All our urban beaches have this distinction. It should be noted that this distinction is coordinated at four levels: local, regional, national and international. In this way, the “Blue Flag” distinction allows us to promote, develop and support different actions that have as their final objective the sustainable environmental management of the coastline of our municipality. Thus, the Blue Flag on a beach recognises and stimulates the efforts of the town councils to ensure that the beaches of the municipalities comply with certain regulatory criteria (coastal law, bathing water directive, urban waste water directive, etc.), cleanliness and safety, information and environmental management.

The beaches of Can Picafort, Son Bauló and Son Serra de Marina have received the Blue Flag distinction year after year. With this distinction, Santa Margarita becomes one of the municipalities with the most blue flags in the Balearic Islands. The improvement of the bathing areas, such as the accesses and their equipment; the quality of our waters and our life-saving system have been key elements in achieving this distinction.

In summary, the Blue Flag is a badge that accredits compliance with quality requirements and recognises effort and commitment to quality and continuous improvement. The award is valid annually and mainly recognises four areas: bathing water quality, environmental information and education; environmental management and safety; services and facilities.
