Can Picafort is a coastal town of Mallorca in the municipality of Santa Margalida. It is located in the Bay of Alcudia, about 10 kilometers from Santa Margarita, in the northeast of the city of Palma, on the north coast of the island.

This place is one of the main tourist areas of the island and offers a variety of services and attractions that each year enjoyed by visitors from all over Europe, but mainly from Germany and the UK, who choose Can Picafort to enjoy their holidays.

Can Picafort story starts just over a century ago when some wealthy families in Santa Margalida decided to build their summer homes in this area. Jeroni Fuster “Picafort” was the name of one of those people who started the development of this area.

Today Can Picafort is a tourist destination of Mallorca which has a wide range of hotels and restaurants. In the early 70s, Can Picafort was a small fishing village with 200 inhabitants. With the passage of time was transformed into a resort with almost 10,000 hotel beds.

In the district of Son Bauló is a small protected natural area called Son Real where you can see a lot of wildlife such as may turtles, red pheasants, hares, rabbits, weasels, dormice and algerian hedgehogs. In this area there are some important archaeological excavations. Most of them date from before the Roman era. The most famous are the Royal Necropolis or the Cemetery of the Phoenicians.
